All BCAA’s are created equal, or are they? Performix ISO Recovery is the last kind I bought – this is my review.
I’ll be honest and say I don’t know the technical aspects behind it – there’s amino acid ratios and what not that I just don’t get. I honestly don’t even know if this is something beneficial. Do they really help, or is it a money scheme?
If you’re more in the dark than I am, BCAA stands for Branched Chain Amino Acids and they are used for muscle repair after hard workouts. BCAA’s supposedly:
- Promote muscle repair
- Increase muscle gains
- Reduce muscle loss
- Help intensity during exercise
Amino acids are non-essential, meaning our bodies produce them on it’s own so they aren’t necessary to find in our diets. This is simply a supplement in case our bodies don’t make enough of it and our food doesn’t close that gap. There’s two teams: believing in these abilities and thinking it’s a crock. My personal stance is, what can it hurt? If I can take a supplement that might help with all of the above, why wouldn’t I want to take it?
I’ve tried multiple flavors from two brands, Cellucor and BPI Sports with varying success.
The timing in which you take them is really important. From what I’ve read, when they should be taken is unclear; before your workouts, during your workout, and or after your workouts. To me, it makes more sense to take them during or after, so that’s when I drink it.
I totally forgot I bought this jug of it until this morning when my husband reminded me to take it. I opened it thinking I would be welcomed with clumpy, old powder. To my pleasant surprise, I found it unopened and intact. After the struggle to take the sealing plastic off, I added a scoop to my shaker bottle of ice cold water, shook it and went about my business.
It’s lemon lime flavor and is hands down the best I’ve ever tasted, as far as BCAA’s go. Performix lemon lime is easy to drink and I won’t have any problems at all getting this down my gullet unlike some others I’ve tried (I’m lookin’ at you BPI Sports Blue Raspberry). It’s $39.99 for a container, but GNC always has sales going on so you can probably get it for cheaper.
I think it’s helpful in muscle recovery – I recommend Performix BCAA’s!
Try it for yourself here.
My rating: Thumbs Up
It’s the Mountain Dew of BCAA’s and a great price.
