Is it really the end of October?

And the last I posted on my blog was in the end of September?

Now that I think about it, it’s not that hard to believe. As my mom always said (and I always laughed at), time is cruel. Now that I understand, it’s not funny anymore.

So many things have happened since I wrote last.

  • My family and I endured my dad’s birthday. Being the first with out his Earthly presence, it was hard but we made it through like champs.
  • Meanwhile, my husbands birthday also came and went. He’s now the ripe age of 27. I know, I got a youngin’.
  • I switched to a primarily plant based diet, which is not the first time but this time is permanent. More on that later.
  • Most importantly, I fell in love with living an active lifestyle vs. forcing the idea of what I thought it meant.

Basically, I’ve just been living my best life while trying to better it for the last 3 weeks or so.

If you follow my Instagram, or have read my last blog post, you know I’ve enrolled in AFPA’s Holistic Nutritionist Certification course.

Now that I’m 3 weeks in, on the second book on the syllabus and a few lectures in, I can confidently say that I love it. I’m soaking all the technical information up like a sponge and thumbing through the pages like I never have before. For reference, I’m not a reader by any means and was already felt defeated when I saw how many books I had to read.

I’m  happy to say that I’m slaying all the books.

Deeply Holistic was the first book I read and to be honest, it is a little new agey for me. There was a ton of very useful information and while I do believe in treating the health of our mind and body as one whole unit, there were some things that didn’t mesh being a believer in Christ. That doesn’t mean I didn’t read it, and it doesn’t mean I didn’t like the book.

Some things I took from Deeply Holistic:

  • Earthing. It’s basically a form of therapy that includes taking off your shoes and walking on the ground barefoot. At first I thought it was silly, but the more I thought about it the more sense it makes. That feeling you have when leaving the beach on a hot summer day? Or, for me, leaving the state park and being surrounded by trees? Yeah. That’s what Earthing is about.
  • Medication (IE Imodium AD for diarrhea and or Tylenol for low fever) only suppresses our natural cleansing mechanisms and can actually bury the toxins responsible for symptoms deeper into our bodies.
  • The heart is the mastermind, not the brain.
  • Caring for our mind and spirit, or “energy”, is just as important as caring for our physical bodies.
  • Holistic ways to care for our mind, body and spirit as a whole.
  • So so much more

While necessary to read, it isn’t my area of interest, or why I enrolled in the course. How Not To Die, on the other hand, is.

This book is a life changing book. If you haven’t read it, pick it up STAT.

It focuses on how to eat to avoid premature death by suffering from coronary heart disease, a host of different cancers, diabetes, stroke and more.

Did you know that the spice turmeric reprograms cancer cells to die? Or that saffron has been shown to be just as effective as the most popular prescribed medicine at slowing the progression of Alzheimers? I didn’t either until reading this book – and I’m only on chapter 4!

As you can see, I’ve been one busy bee.

The blog hasn’t even been on my radar, until a good friend encouraged me to write at least one post a week. If anything to update on my course, my weight loss or life in general.

In his words, “You can take 45 minutes and write a solid post” and he’s right.
