Let me just say these Beyond Meat plant-based patties slipped into my life at just the right time.
Have you guys ever heard of the blood type diet? No?
Well, call me crazy but after reading about it and linking a few things to it’s claims – I’m down with it.
I have type A blood (thanks, daddy) and long story short, it suggests living a vegetarian lifestyle. It also specifies avoiding red meat, which is much different than the low carb / keto lifestyle I’ve followed for nearly a year straight. I’ll admit it’s kind of hokey, but in my research I’ve stumbled upon a few diseases our blood type is susceptible to which include:
- Cancer (my daddy had Renal cancer)
- Hypothroidism (he also had this)
- OCD (which my husband always tells me I have which I do not have)
This kind of shook me.
The suggestion of removing red meat from my diet is very coincidental, as I did that about 3 months ago after a 2 day long “hangover” from a Hardees bacon burger. I noticed on my own, well before I read anything about a blood type diet, that it was hard on my body – and I acted on it.
Okay, okay. I’ll get down to business.
Easing into training for my next half has me easing out of the low carb lifestyle, so I have taken some of the advice I’ve read and am eliminating most meats. That being said, I saw these Beyond Meat plant-based patties for the first time at my local grocery store on Saturday when I went for my haul.
They are a little pricey, I think I paid $7 for 2 patties, but sometimes you get what you pay for. I took a chance and bought 2 packs of them.
Beyond Meat: The Beyond Burger are
- Soy Free
- Gluten Free
- GMO Free
- and have 20g of plant powered protein per patty.
Yes, please. Nutrition wise, they’re nothing to shake a stick at, either.
The package comes with (2) 1/4lb patties made of mostly pea protein and beets. I wouldn’t say that it tastes like beef, because it doesn’t to me, but it is good and very filling. They’re soft but still kind of meaty. The consistency is a little different, but it’s not different enough to stop me from eating it or buying more.
The first meal I made with them was a patty over lentil salad and I was not disappointed!
These have really good flavor and are so quick to make. I could see sandwiching these between mushrooms as burgers or making plant based meatballs. A dippy egg on top would be slamming too.
Overall, these are a great alternative for those of us looking to limit meat and/or clean up our diets a little bit. I’m so excited these are available to me in my grocery store!
My Rating: 2 Thumbs Up
This is a fantastic alternative to beef and I am buying all the Beyond Meat patties!
